Trezor.io/Start — Starting® Up® Your® Device®

Clear steps, practical security, and confident setup for your Trezór® hardware wallet.

Welcome to Trezor.io/Start — the guided, security-first introduction to getting your hardware wallet running safely. A hardware wallet protects your private keys by keeping them offline inside a tamper-resistant device. This landing page walks you through each important step from unboxing to making your first secure transaction, explains why each step matters, and highlights straightforward practices that reduce risk without adding complexity.

1
Unbox & verify

Begin by checking the packaging for factory seals and authenticity markers. If anything looks altered or suspicious, stop — contact official support. Always start setup on a trusted computer or mobile device and avoid public or unknown networks during initialization.

2
Initialize securely

Power on the device and follow on-screen instructions to create a new wallet or restore an existing one. Choose a PIN you will remember but that is not trivially guessable. The PIN is required each time you confirm a transaction on-device — keep it secret.

3
Record your recovery seed

Write down the recovery words exactly in the order shown, using the supplied recovery card or another reliable offline method. Store the seed in a secure, offline location — if your device is lost, the seed is the only way to recover funds. Never photograph or store the seed digitally.

4
Update firmware & apps

Check for official firmware updates and apply them before sending or receiving funds. Install desktop or mobile companion apps only from official sources. Updates often include security improvements and new features.

5
Confirm transactions on-device

When you initiate a transaction, review the recipient address and amount carefully on the Trezór® screen before approving. The device isolates private keys and requires manual confirmation, protecting you against many remote attacks.

Simple safety checklist

  • Never share your recovery seed or PIN — official support will never ask for them.
  • Store recovery words offline and consider multiple secure locations for redundancy.
  • Use an optional passphrase for extra protection, but store it separately from your seed.
  • Be cautious of phishing sites; always verify you are using official Trezór® URLs and apps.
  • Keep firmware and software updated and use antivirus on companion devices.
